The early years of Elementary School are important for a child’s growth and development as a whole person. The experiences they have in the early years are important for their emotional and academic growth, as they are learning the skills and abilities to relate to others, to think critically and to become lifelong learners. At TIS we follow a comprehensive curriculum for early childhood and Elementary students up to Grade 2. Recognising that our students are from diverse backgrounds, and move to a variety of education systems, we follow the NSW syllabuses for the new Australian Curriculum, which prepares students to enter Grade 3 in any education system. The curriculum aims to develop the children holistically by providing activities that are developmentally appropriate for them. TIS is committed in serving the multicultural population in IRRI. The NSW syllabus for the Australian Curriculum is made up of a number of Key Learning Areas, and TIS follows these. The Key Learning Areas at TIS are:
All teachers and students follow the syllabus, using outcomes and standards-based assessment to ensure that all aspects are covered for each Grade level. Regular professional development is undertaken so that the teachers have up-to-date skills and knowledge to implement the curriculum. Our school has two classes, one for students in Pre-Kinder and Kinder (Ages 4-5), and one for students Grades 1 and 2. We have modern facilities, teacher and student resources, and comprehensive library and the necessary resources to meet individual learning needs. We have specialist classes for Music, PE, Personal Development and Health, Art, computer skills, library, Science, Geography and History. Our teachers are highly skilled and experienced in their specialties. Our school day starts, for students, at 8am and runs until 2.30pm. A bus, provided by IRRI, transports students to and from their homes each day, and the schedule is designed to minimise the travelling time for each student as much as possible. |
